Phuket Island in Thailand is a major holiday destination. But if you like to travel the unbeaten path while there, then there are many lesser known angles to this picturesque city. In fact chances are you will not come across any other tourist on this venture. So, even in Phuket if you feel like getting away, even for a day or two, here are a few not-so-well-known places to see.
1. In the North of Phuket is the Haad Sai Kaew Beach, a beautiful endless Thai beach that means ‘glass sand’ and justifies the name. This is a beach that is sure to be bare of tourists even in the high season. You may feel like walling along the crystal sands of the never ending beach that stretches out. A few seafood restaurants are there that offer delicious food.
2. Wat (Temple) Srisoonthon may sound like just another ‘wat’ to you as this island is blessed with so many of them. But the specialty of this is that there is a huge reclining Buddha that is not glimpsed from the road. The place is set among peaceful surroundings and there the statue is above a few steps. Although it is on the way from the airport, many people are unaware of this beautiful temple.
3. The Radar Hill View Point offers spectacular views of Phuket city and beaches. But again you will find mostly locals here. Maybe, because of the narrow path leading up, this viewpoint is not so popular as compared to other viewpoints.
4. Wat Kao Rang is the temple of the ‘sitting Buddha’. Although the temple and the statue are beautiful, many tourists are unaware of this place in Phuket. This is actually the first sitting Buddha and the original one but it is often missed out on itineraries.
5. Old Phuket Town is an amazing place with mysterious lanes and sub lanes leading you inside. There are some old mansions still standing that look exactly as they have looked for the past century or so. While visiting this old town you can imagine Phuket as it was a century ago.
6. Phang Nga, a little away from Phuket city, will again offer you all kinds of beautiful things like the reclining Buddha, a water cave and a cruise without the crowd that usually throngs tourist places. Rent a boat and go around to enjoy the charm of the place. You may be lucky to see a few naughty monkeys on the way to the cave.
7. Another hard to find and hidden away charm of Phuket is the Laem Ka Beach in the south of the island near Rawai. This gem of a beach is slightly obscured and you will find only a few tourists like you who like to get away once in a while. Laze around the beach and enjoy the beauty of nature minus the mob even during the Phuket peak season.
So, while in Phuket, explore the places that normally tourists don’t know about or that are not so popular but are beautiful in their own respect. These places in Phuket will be appreciated by those who like peace and quiet while on a holiday.
